Qixi Festival, or Double Seventh Festival, is celebrated in China on the seventh day of the seventh month on the Chinese lunar calendar. It is a festival to commemorate the romance of Niulang (the Herd-boy) and Zhinu (the Weaving girl) in a Chinese myth. Legend has it that Niulang, a plain and kind-hearted herd-boy, fell in love with Zhinu, a virtuous and beautiful fairy from Heaven, and then they had a boy and a girl. Unfortunately, Zhinu, who had come down to the earth secretly, was taken back and was only allowed to meet Niulang on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month each year as a punishment for her violation of Heaven's rules. Now, this day is somehow endowed with the meaning of true love. Therefore, it is also known as China's Valentine's Day.
