In diachronic listening tests, the word presented in the right ear goes di¬rectly to the left brain, and the word heard in the left ear,on the other hand ,must first go to the right hemisphere, from where it is transferred to the left side of the brain for processing. Since this non-direct route takes a longer time before processing than a lin¬guistic signal received through the right ear which goes directly to the left hemisphere, stimuli heard in the left ear are reported less accurately than those heard in the right ear. This phenomenon is known as the right ear advantage.
