Open up most fashion magazines and you will see incredibly thin models with impossible hair and wearing unreasonably expensive, impracticably styled clothes. But shouldn’t clothes be comfortably durable and make a principle of being simple for the individual who wears them? Why are we constantly told that we need to buy new clothes and add fresh pieces to our collection?
Fashions change year after year so lots of people can make piles of money. If folks are convinced that they need a different look each season, that this year’s sweater’s length and shoes style are important, they can be persuaded to buy. The fashion industry would have you ignore your shortcomings and just make you feel beautiful and happy. In fact, it is not only a phenomenon we can find in people’s dressing.
Fashion controls our lives. Fashion controls what we wear, what we eat, what we drink, the way we cut our hair, the makeup we buy and use, the color of the cars we drive. Fashion even controls our ideas.
You don’t believe me? How many of your friends are vegetarians? Why are they vegetarians? Because it is fashionable! Where does fashion come from? Often the reasons are quite logical. Scientists and historians study the fashions of the past and discover the secrets of each fashion. When girls see an attractive guy, their blood pressure rises and their lips become redder. That’s why guys think that girls wearing lipstick are beautiful. Why do guys shave their heads? In the past soldiers shaved their heads to kill the insects that lived in their hair. Now guys shave their heads so that they look strong and masculine, like soldiers.
People spend a lot of time and money on fashion. But are they wasting their money? Changes in fashion help to develop new technologies. Changes in style create work for people all over the world. Many people work in the fashion industry, particularly in the fashion capitals of London, New York, Paris and Milan.
And finally, fashion makes you feel good, doesn’t it? When you are dressed in the latest style, dancing to the most fashionable music, after watching the latest hit film, you feel great, don’t you?

A. Unbiased. A. 公正的。
B. Indifferent. B.
C. Critical. C.
D. Appreciative. D.
(Open up most fashion magazines and you will see incredibly thin models with impossible hair and wearing unreasonably expensive, impracticably styled clothes.)。”
A选项“公正的”文章中的描述带有明确的负面评价,表明作者有偏见,属于曲解原文;
B选项“冷漠的”通过使用强烈的形容词和表达方式,可以看出作者并非漠不关心,而是有明确的态度,属于曲解原文;
It is indicated by the author that clothes should be ____.
A. comfortable and durable A. 舒适耐用
B. new and fresh B. 新颖
C. expensive and fashionable C.
D. simple and unique D.
【解题思路】在文章的第一段中,作者提出了一个问题“But shouldn’t clothes be comfortably durable and make a principle of being simple for the individual who wears them?(但是衣服不应该是舒适耐用的,并且对于穿着它们的人来说简单吗?)”,这里作者直接询问衣服是否应该是舒适耐用的,并强调了简单性的重要性。
B选项“新颖”文章批评了时尚界不断推陈出新的趋势,指出这是为了促使消费者不断购买新产品,这与作者对衣服应具备的品质的看法不符,属于反向干扰;
C选项“昂贵而时尚”文章开头提到模特穿着“unreasonably expensive, impracticably styled clothes”,暗示昂贵和不切实际的风格并不是作者推崇的,属于曲解原文;
The fashion industry makes profits by ____.
A. selling the products at high prices A. 高价销售产品
B. creating a need in you B.
C. helping you get rid of your shortcomings C.
D. making you look more beautiful D.
【解题思路】文章第二段提到“Fashions change year after year so lots of people can make piles of money. If folks are convinced that they need a different look each season, that this year’s sweater’s length and shoes style are important, they can be persuaded to buy.(时尚年复一年地变化,因此很多人可以赚大钱。
A选项“高价销售产品”虽然文章中提到了“unreasonably expensive”的衣服,但是这并不是时尚产业获利的直接方式。获利的直接方式是通过创造需求,即使产品价格不是特别高,也能通过大量销售来获利,属于答非所问;
C选项“帮你摆脱缺点”文章中提到时尚产业会让你“ignore your shortcomings(忽略你的缺点)”,但这并不是其获利的方式,而是其营销手段的一部分,属于答非所问;
The author thinks what has been found about fashions by the scientists and the historians is ____.
A. incredible A. 不可思议的
B. amazing B.
C. reasonable C. 合理的
D. creative D.
A选项“不可思议的”与文章中描述的科学家和历史学家发现的时尚背后的逻辑性不符,属于曲解原文;
B选项“惊人的”文章中并没有直接表达作者对此感到惊异。作者关注的是这些发现的逻辑性,属于无中生有;
The passage mentions the advantages of fashion EXCEPT that ____.
A. it can help promote technological development A. 它有助于促进技术发展
B. it enables people to remain up-to-date B.
C. it can create more job opportunities for people C.
D. it can make people achieve a great feeling D.
【解题思路】文章中提到了“Changes in fashion help to develop new technologies(时尚的变化有助于开发新技术)”,这表明时尚可以推动技术创新,排除选项A;接着提到“Changes in style create work for people all over the world. Many people work in the fashion industry, particularly in the fashion capitals of London, New York, Paris and Milan.(风格的变化为世界各地的人们创造了工作机会。 ,这表明时尚创造了更多的就业机会,排除选项C;最后,文章指出“And finally, fashion makes you feel good, doesn’t it? When you are dressed in the latest style, dancing to the most fashionable music, after watching the latest hit film, you feel great, don’t you?(最后,时尚让你感觉良好,不是吗?
