Jupiter communications, a market research firm, reports that 72% of teenagers in the United States will be online by 2003(Stanton,2000). This alone indicates that students wilkleatn andcommunicate electronically more than any prerious generation. At the same time, teenagers are not the only digital learners. With the growing number of online courses, the increasing accessibility of computers, and the increasing number of computer users, students of all ages are taking advantage of distance learning or are using computers to enhance the traditional classroom experience.

Two things emerge in the study of students' attitudes toward online learning:individual situations impact students' perceptions of computer-based ) learning and students' varied individual characteristics make it difficult to define their perceptions conclusively. For example, some students have their own computers, whileothers rely on computer labs. Such variation in computeruse varies. Distance education courses, for example, nse computer in different ways than traditional classrooms, which can also affect students’pereeptions. A wide variety of achievement levels and attiturdes exist among both online and traditional learners, Although an illusory “ty pical learner exists, a variety of factors, including students gender, and motivation could explain different reaetions among the student population."

Passage4

In the current cultural atmosphere, much is made of interchangeability betwveen the sexes. Women can hold men's jobs and men can hold women's; both men and women can play the same sports; both are supposed to share household responsibilities. Also, with the rise of so many single-parent families, mothers of fathers often have to become two-parents-in-one for their teenager.

Yet, despite these trends, I believe firmly that there is a special importance in same-sex relationships between mothers and daughters, and fathers and sons. Without these relationships, of some substitute that flll similar function, it's hard for children and parents to experience the full range of intimate talking relationships.

My reasoning? In order to functioneffectively in the adult world, we need good rolemodels to show us how to behave and react. To be shre, yourcan learn a great deal from the parent of the opposite sex and in the same cases, you may learnallvou need to know. But in most cases. There is noreal suibstitute for a good same-sex role model togive a child the best chance at complete and well-balancedemotional development.

Perhaps the most important lessons we learn from our same- sex parents are how to relate both to people of the same sex and also to those of the opposite sex. Thus, sons need a strong male role model to learn how men deal with each other and with women. Similarly, daughters need a strong female model to understand how women relate to each other and to men.

Passage5

After graduating from the SIiss Federal Polytechnic School, Einstein held severalh teaching jobs and became a technical assistant in the Swiss Patent Office in Bern, where he remained forsix years. The job's great advantage,he later said, yas that it gave him time to think about physics. .

Betreen 1901 and 1904, Einstein published five papers on physics. In one paper he virtually proved the existence of molecules, solely by the use of theory; in another,he showed that light is both a wave and a particle. In his sixth paper published in the summer of 1905, he established the outline of his theory of relativity. His arguments radically revised existing concepts of electromagnetism, light, and that the speed of light is constant and that nothing in the universe can travel faster than light. If the velocity of light is constant, then all motion and even time itself must be relative to it. If objects could approach the speed of light, their age, mass, and size would appear very different to a stationary observer than if the objects were moving ,at slower speeds. A clock nearing the speed of light would slow down; if it reached the speed of light ,time would stand still. Many of his contentions, havebeen confirmed by subsequent experiments Atomiaclocks in spacecraft of biting the earth, for example, runa fraction of a second more slowly than clocks on eath.
